Liverpool want a new number nine but will need to consider all of their options very carefully.

The Reds’ pursuit of a striker this summer is not exactly a secret and they have been linked to almost every big name at some point over the last few months.

There are a few options that keep cropping up, with ‘dream’ target Alexander Isak one of them, ahead of the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen.

However, there is another striker who has gone much more under the radar that perhaps Liverpool should be looking at, one who is also wanted by a variety of top teams.

Not only do his performances and numbers suggest he would be a good addition, but Harvey Elliott has also given his verdict on the player, with the Englishman seemingly giving the forward his seal of approval.

Liverpool are being quoted some simply astronomical prices for their striker targets so far this summer, suggesting they could make a surprise move for a cheaper alternative.

This is where Nick Woltemade could come into play.

Although he would have been a lot cheaper before the Under 21 European Championships, the German could still depart VfB Stuttgart this summer for around £50m.

He finished top scorer at the tournament with six goals and impressed everyone with his ability, none more so than Elliott who showed his appreciation for the striker during an interview with BILD.

“He is an incredible player, he has been so good this tournament.

I am very happy for him and wish him all the best for the future.”

His future is an interesting one as Stuttgart do not want to sell but will if the right offer comes in, while the player currently has a verbal agreement with Bayern Munich.

Although those at the Bavarian club have approved the deal, the transfer fee appears to be the stumbling block, suggesting Liverpool still have a chance to hijack the deal.

As many of the reports suggest, Darwin Nunez will need to be sold first to facilitate any move for a striker, and Woltemade might just be the player to help revolutionise the number nine role at Anfield.

To be a successful striker at Liverpool, a player needs to be versatile and capable of both scoring and linking up play.

Woltemade can do just that.

The 23-year-old scored six and assisted three for Germany at the Euros, adding to the 20 goal involvements he registered in all competitions for Stuttgart last season.

At six foot six inches tall, Woltemade is still good with the ball at his feet and is a clinical finisher, something Liverpool have lacked in a number nine for a good few years.

His current coach Sebastian Hoeneß also labelled him as ‘special’ earlier on in the season despite being there just one season, indicating to the Reds just how good he could be.

He would be a gamble, but equally so would any of their other options, and after impressing so much this summer, perhaps it is the right time for Liverpool to take a risk on a player ready for the next step.
